Rain’s small rural factory specializes in the creation of handmade, African-inspired products imbued with the care, passion and laughter that is the cornerstone of our work ethic. Today we have a wide range of bathroom and bathing accessories, but when we started in 1999 in a disused railway shed, body and bath products were our first love and they remain the heart of our business. Our products are formulated from oils made from indigenous, wild-harvested plants sourced throughout Southern Africa. Creative inspiration and utmost attention to detail is a Rain trademark, as is our commitment to using materials sourced in Africa wherever possible. Products are presented in 100% handmade gift packaging that is recyclable and deliberately multi-purpose.
We support the very progressive labour laws of our country and implement them through our ethical and moral working conditions and policies. We are passionate about providing employment opportunities for the local community and in doing so help to combat poverty in Southern Africa. We actively promote a happy and peaceful work environment. We mentor, guide and support small local crafters and producers – always paying a fair price and always accommodating their limitations.
Africa has limited access to the affordable raw materials available in the developed world, however we strive to source pure, natural and naturally-derived ingredients and materials wherever and whenever possible.
We use organic raw materials whenever we have the option to do so. As many of them do not have official certification as organic, we do not abuse the claim.
We love animals. We will never knowingly use any raw material or ingredient which has been tested on animals and we would never test any of our products on animals.
Rain packaging is designed to be multi-purpose with secondary functional use after initial purchase. Our packaging is almost entirely made from recycled or natural raw materials and is biodegradable. Our foam bath deli section in stores is designed so that customers can bring their own containers to refill. We are sensitive and responsible in our impact on the environment, recycling where we can, making environmentally aware choices, and making use of sustainable resources wherever possible.
We believe in complete openness and honesty, and when we say something is in the product, it really is in the product. You deserve the right to know what is going onto your skin, and we will never deceive or lie about any ingredient we have used. Preservation is done in the safest and gentlest of ways, and every ingredient is chosen for its performance and benefits to your body. You will NEVER find substandard, poor quality or suspicious ingredients in Rain products.
We use them too and we are particular!
